The PHILHARMONIC ORCHESTRA GYŐR is characterised by its professionalism and international standard. It offers its audiences world-class quality. Its performances have led to great success in almost all European countries and also on the most important stages in Asia, in China, South Korea and Taiwan. In the process, it has gained great recognition from both professional audiences and visitors. In spring 2009, the orchestra undertook a successful tour of the Far East and Europe with the legendary Italian film composer and conductor, Oscar-winner Ennio Morricone. In addition, the ensemble gained special recognition when it was nominated as the resident orchestra of the Hungarian gala of the international opera competition Operalia, which was founded by Placido Domingo.
The orchestra has been conducted by famous Hungarian and international masters in recent decades and has entertained its audiences with world-famous soloists.
In addition to classical music, the repertoire also includes interpretations of popular music. According to the expectations of this regional cultural ensemble and the leading music institution of the region, it functions simultaneously as a classical-traditional orchestra, a crossover film band, an open-air or gala orchestra, a smaller or larger chamber orchestra and, if necessary, a wind orchestra. The director of the Győr Philharmonic Orchestra has been Géza Fűke since July 2008.
