Carl Maria von Weber in Dresden

With Prof. Dr. Matthias Herrmann and Dr. Caroline Förster (editor)

Musical contribution by Kathrin Bäz (flute) and Daniel Bäz (bassoon)

Carl Maria von Weber was Royal Kapellmeister and Director of the German Opera at the Dresden Court Theater. Since 1817, he lived in the city of Dresden and began composing his most famous opera "Der Freischütz" in the same year. In 2026, the 200th anniversary of the composer's death will be commemorated. On the occasion of this anniversary year in honor of Carl Maria von Weber, the new Dresden issue sheds light on the various aspects of his work. It dedicates itself, among other things, to the operas "Der Freischütz," "Euryanthe," and "Oberon," describes how the local university got its name in 1959, and examines the significance of Weber's work today.

In the conversation, the two editors present the diverse topics of the Dresden issue. The insight is complemented by musical contributions from a woodwind duo of the Dresden Philharmonic.
