Kastelruther Spatzen

The 2025 Christmas concert

Success and longevity do not necessarily have to go hand in hand in the music business. In an industry of fast songs, only the most enduring careers are counted in decades and when 30 years of continuity have accumulated, any enquiry is probably superfluous. In show business, long-term success can be recognised most clearly when an artist's career clearly outlives the awards season. The Kastelruther Spatzen have received “Die Goldene Stimmgabel” 5 times, and several “Kronen der Volksmusik” as well as winning the “Grand Prix der Volksmusik”. These 3 award shows are now TV history, but the Spatzen are still at the peak of their success. Their 13 (!) Echos have long been inscribed in the great book of industry history and are regarded as the unalterable measure of all things. 30 years of success, 30 years of continuity. Consistency in action, something that fans particularly appreciate. When the sea gets rougher, it's nice to have buoys to orientate yourself by.

34 years ago, the Kastelruther Spatzen released their first long-playing record. Black. Vinyl. Title: “Das Mädchen mit den erloschenen Augen”. There was a cassette version for the Walkman. Today, music cassettes are sold at flea markets, but vinyl is currently experiencing a glorious revival. However, the original title of the first album was “Viel Spaß und Freude" ("Have fun and enjoy"). Each sparrow had contributed a track, all the other songs were written by Albin Gross. On the cover you can see the Schlern in the background. The Dolomite mountain is a landmark of the region. The Schlern was chosen by the Spatzen because they thought the mountain was more famous than the band. 30 years later, it is fair to say that the popularity of the mountain and the band are in balance. The first album was already a success and since then they have received well-deserved awards every year. Gold, platinum, double platinum and so on. It would go beyond the scope of this article to list them all. The awards are traditionally presented at the Spatzenfest. Every year in October, the Spatzen and their fans celebrate a 3-day get-together in Kastelruth. The term “festival” is pure understatement. 15,000 happy people in the largest marquee in Europe...indescribable. You can only experience something like this in person. The Spatzenfest is a story of its own and an essential part of the past 34 years. Organised by: HMG Events GmbH & Co KG
