2025 will be a great year for RAINHARD FENDRICH fans! On 27 February, the music legend celebrates his 70th birthday, his 45th stage anniversary is coming up as well as the release of the much-anticipated new studio album ‘Wimpernschlag’ (release date: 31.1.25) and the icing on the cake is the big anniversary tour through Germany, Austria and Switzerland from April - with numerous additional dates due to high demand! With the release of his live album ‘Symphonisch in Schönbrunn’ at the beginning of June, Rainhard Fendrich returned to the charts and at the same time announced a new studio album entitled ‘Wimpernschlag’ for early 2025, a good six years after his last studio album ‘Starkregen’ and in time for his 45th stage anniversary. This release will be accompanied by an extensive anniversary tour entitled ‘Rainhard Fendrich - 45 Years Live I Nur ein Wimpernschlag’. Fans can then look forward to unforgettable concerts - with many new songs as well as Fendrich's greatest hits and cult songs from his 45-year career such as ‘Tango Korrupti’, ‘Macho Macho’, ‘Es lebe der Sport’, ‘Weus'd a Herz hast wia a Bergwerk’ and many more!
Rainhard Fendrich has achieved everything there is to achieve - especially in his native Austria: He has released countless number 1 albums, was the first pop artist to open the Vienna Festival and twice had the opportunity to play concerts with a classical symphony orchestra. Countless of his songs have become evergreens that have almost taken on the character of folk songs, and his song ‘I Am From Austria’ is considered Austria's secret national anthem.
Fendrich does not see himself as a legend, but simply as a songwriter. The exceptional artist has 45 years of career behind him. He no longer has to prove anything to himself and this certainty gives him the freedom to devote himself completely unconstrained and with inexhaustible energy to exactly what fulfils him the most: shaping his thoughts into songs and presenting these songs live in front of an audience!
The songs on the new album will once again be an impressive mixture of catchy melodies and profound, thoughtful lyrics, sometimes paired with a humorous wink. These include ‘Wladimir’, released as a single in mid-July and the first new Fendrich song after his last studio album ‘Starkregen’ and the most recently released album ‘Symphonisch in Schönbrunn’. Two further new singles were released at the beginning and middle of November and increased the anticipation for the new album even more: ‘Wir sind am Leben’ with thoughtful and tender tones, but also with exceptionally driving beats for Rainhard Fendrich. And ‘Hoit mi’ - a song that picks up on the realisation of how important it is to have someone by your side, not only in good times but also in bad, who is simply there to catch you when it matters.
Fendrich is and remains Fendrich - an astute observer and chronicler of his time, who focusses his attention lyrically and musically on the essentials. But ‘Wimpernschlag’ is also a very personal retrospective: Rainhard Fendrich looks back on the stages of his life, provides insights into his childhood and youth and takes stock. Being young again today? No, certainly not. His focus is on the here and now.
