Ausstellung: Zusammen. Denken.

15 September 2026 – 26 November 2026
(Exhibition in German and English)
Opening hours: Tuesday to Thursday from 1 pm to 6 pm

When science and practice research together - Transdisciplinary projects from Dresden and Saxony.

What happens when researchers not only work within their discipline but collaborate with those who know a problem firsthand - such as caregivers who experience daily where care fails, or firefighters who know where protective clothing fails in action? When science and practice think together from the very beginning rather than sequentially

This is transdisciplinary research.

The collaboration of different disciplines is not new: interdisciplinary research brings disciplines together - biology meets physics, computer science meets medicine. Transdisciplinary research goes a step further: it deliberately includes people outside of science - not as those who implement results at the end, but as equal partners throughout the entire research process. City administrations, caregivers, patients, craft businesses, firefighters, and artists actively contribute. Scientific knowledge and practical experience stand side by side as equals. This is not always easy - different languages, working methods, and time horizons come together. But it is precisely in this collaborative thinking that solutions emerge that neither side could have developed alone.

In this exhibition, you will experience what transdisciplinary research can look like in practice - for example, when researchers and an environmental authority develop a measuring device together, an artist questions the boundaries between humans and animals with biologists, or patients co-design their own treatment plans. Discover what collaborative research between theory and practice looks like - and what arises from it.
